We are a team of parents from Palo Alto, California.

Here are some reasons why we started..

“Over the past 50 years, we’ve seen a continuous erosion of children’s freedom to play. That loss is linked to a rise in anxiety, depression, and lack of creativity.” - Peter Gray

“Today’s parents, especially moms, are burned out. They’re doing more for their kids than ever before — academically, emotionally, socially — while trying to juggle careers, relationships, and self-care.” - Dr. Sheryl Ziegler

“The challenges today’s generation of young people face are unprecedented, and the impact on their mental health is devastating. This is a critical public health issue that we must address now.” - U.S. Surgeon General – Dr. Vivek Murthy

Tweens (ages 8–12) spend an average of 5 hours and 33 minutes on screens per day.
Teens (ages 13–18) spend over 8 hours and 39 minutes per day — excluding screen time for schoolwork. - Common Sense Media

“Kids are not learning how to form real relationships. They're spending less time in person with friends and more time performing for an invisible audience online — it’s shallow, not social.” -

“Children don’t just stumble into deep friendships — they need time, freedom, and shared experiences. We’ve taken much of that away.”

A recent poll by C.S. Mott Children's Hospital found that one in five parents report their children have few or no friends, with 90% of these children expressing a desire for more friendships. Factors such as limited free time, social anxiety, and reduced opportunities for spontaneous interactions contribute to this trend
